Why you should choose a certified CVI vendor
What is CVI for Microsoft Teams
Cloud Video Interoperability (CVI) is a technology program that enables SIP and H323 video systems to join Teams meetings. It is developed by Microsoft, and they have invested greatly in it to provide interoperability services in a secure, scalable, and supportable manner, which adheres to their security and data privacy policies.
CVI is a technology program, not a product
At Pexip, we offer a series of interoperability products under the Pexip Connect brand. Within this series is our certified CVI implementation, along with a host of other capabilities that help create an engaging and easy user experience for Teams users – in addition to being easy to consume and enable across organizations for administrators. We also have similar technologies for other meeting providers, such as Google Meet.
Pexip leads in bringing new CVI features to the market due to our close working relationship with Microsoft’s Teams development team. As part of this relationship, we are a certified CVI partner (one of two by Microsoft), which has great benefits for our customers. In addition, Pexip now also delivers all CVI products for our partner HP Poly.
Why Microsoft certification matters
Pexip CVI is built and tested with Microsoft, enabling us to provide reliable and future-proof products.
We work with Microsoft engineering
That means we are alerted to any changes or updates ahead of time, so we can adjust and minimize any potential impact on users.
You benefit from Microsoft support
On the rare occasion that something does not work, Microsoft works directly with Pexip and other certified vendors to fix bugs, handle security issues, and ensure service uptime.
We plan the CVI future with Microsoft
Pexip is a close partner with Microsoft and engages with them on future development and on how we can support an even better Teams experience for our joint customers.

Debunking recent claims about CVI for Microsoft Teams and Pexip Connect
To make it easy to understand how Pexip can help you seamlessly connect any room to any meeting, we’ve highlighted some of the claims out there to clear up any confusion.
Claim #1
CVI doesn’t support much-loved video meeting features like raised hand, alternative layouts, ad-hoc dial, or ad-hoc join.
Reality check: False
Pexip offers a range of meeting controls to enhance your Teams meeting room experience on your video conferencing endpoint. You can change layouts, pin participants, see raised hands, mute status and much more.
Pexip also enables ad-hoc join, and we’re even looking at adding ad-hoc join of guest meetings. In addition, dialing directly to or from a Microsoft based Teams Room is available today. This is all part of our Pexip Connect product, in which you’ll find our CVI technology for Microsoft Teams.
Claim #2
CVI does not support PowerPoint Live.
Reality check: True & false
CVI support for PowerPoint Live is now on the Microsoft roadmap. Pexip is working closely with Microsoft to deliver this experience which will enable slides from the PPT live presentation to be shared with the meeting participants connected over CVI.
When PowerPoint Live capabilities become a part of the CVI specification, rest assured that we will be the first to implement. Reach out to your Pexip contact to get the latest updates.
Claim #3
CVI doesn’t support Safe Links.
Reality check: False
Once again, this claim mixes up Pexip technology versus the full product – CVI being the technology and Pexip Connect being the product.
Pexip Connect supports Safe Links and even has a custom engine to handle this.
Claim #4
CVI doesn’t process meeting invitations from Teams or Zoom.
Reality check: False
Pexip supports all meeting platforms and is the only one truly enabling the room for multiplatform, with full support for all SIP-enabled platforms, Teams, and Google Meet.
Pexip has also partnered with Zoom to enable Zoom Rooms to call over Pexip via SIP into Teams meetings. This is a Zoom supported development and can be enabled across the entire Zoom estate in minutes.
Claim #5
CVI doesn’t have a control panel and analytics engine that can provide reports.
Reality check: False
Pexip offers comprehensive analytics, diagnostics, monitoring, and control panels.
This has nothing to do with CVI technology – rather it’s a feature of our product Pexip Connect.
Claim #6
Pexip is not certified by Cisco, nor does it hold the permission to integrate with certain APIs.
Reality check: False
Pexip has a relationship with all vendors we work with, and we are using documented APIs in accordance with the usage requirements and documentation from each vendor.
Claim #7
CVI for Microsoft Teams is outdated technology.
Reality check: False
Microsoft has made massive investments in interoperability with leading partners, including Pexip, and they have robust plans for their CVI program. Read more about their planned Cloud Video Interop features here. The technology used is the same framework Microsoft uses for their own first party services in Teams meetings.
Through our strong and long-time partnership with Microsoft, Pexip continues to invest in providing customers with the most Teams-like experience available.
So long as meeting rooms have a variety of equipment and devices, there will be a need for CVI technology to create a great Teams experience in any meeting room, not only the Teams-native ones. Additionally, the CVI technology is a key component to enabling new functionality like Teams Rooms Calling.
Claim #8
Pexip is complex to install.
Reality check: False
There is no substitute for the proper architecture. Pexip CVI has been designed in partnership with Microsoft to meet their stringent security, privacy, and scale requirements.
The Pexip CVI consent can be enabled in 5 minutes by an O365 admin.
